Carole Baskin, known for her role in the “Tiger King” documentary, was not a fan of the LSU Tigers having a live tiger mascot on the field in Week 11. It was the first time since 2015 that the Tigers had a live mascot on the field.<\/p>\n

Instead of bringing in Mike the Tiger, the team’s live mascot that lives on campus, the school brought in a tiger from a sanctuary in Florida.<\/p>\n

Baskin voiced her displeasure with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry following the weekend.<\/p>\n

“Bringing a live tiger to a football game is quite possibly a violation of the federal Lacey Act and Louisiana’s own dangerous animal laws, and it also sends the wrong message to students about respect for wildlife,” the “Tiger King” star told TMZ<\/a>. “Trucking a wild animal all the way from central Florida for a spectacle is a blatant disregard for the tiger’s well-being and reinforces the dangerous idea that nature exists solely for our entertainment.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Baskin is based in Florida, which is where the live tiger came from in Week 11.<\/p>\n

Landry said bringing in the tiger was meant to honor the school’s previous live mascots. Still, many people other than Baskin were upset<\/a>. One petition racked up over 14,000 signatures ahead of the weekend, and it’s unknown if the school will have a live mascot on the field again in the future.<\/p>\n

The live tiger did not give the team any good luck in Week 11. The Tigers were dominated by Alabama, losing 42-13 and falling to 6-3 on the season. The Tide have defeated the Tigers in 4 of the last 5 meetings.<\/p>\n
