Paul Finebaum is well aware of the narrative that surrounded Lane Kiffin heading into Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and Georgia.<\/p>\n
All the talk about Kiffin never being able to win a big game, though, can go out the window after the Rebels defeated the Bulldogs 28-10, Finebaum said.<\/p>\n
“The narrative … just gets stuck to him, fair or not fair. You can never say that again. That was the biggest win of Lane Kiffin’s career,” he said on “The Matt Barrie Show”. “And I’m really happy for him because he’s a guy that we pay attention to … At the heart of the matter, he’s an elite football coach. And he proved that (on Saturday).”<\/p>\n
The final score didn’t do the Rebels’ performance against the Bulldogs justice, he added, as Kiffin’s team made their biggest case yet for a first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.<\/p>\n
“He slew the biggest dragon in college football (on Saturday). And it was just almost a pummeling,” he said. “And Ole Miss wasn’t even trying to score at the end of the game. They had to kick field goals because they were just doing the math.”<\/p>\n
Ole Miss has two games remaining: on the road at Florida and the Egg Bowl at home against Mississippi State. A victory in both games would likely secure an at-large Playoff berth for the Rebels.<\/p>\n
“It’s hard to imagine a more dangerous team heading into the final couple weeks of the season,” Finebaum said.<\/p>\n
