Dak Prescott plans to receive surgery to repair a hamstring injury suffered during the Dallas Cowboys’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prescott suffered what Schefter reported as a “partially torn hamstring” during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game and left the contest. Backup QB Cooper Rush finished out the afternoon.<\/p>\n

According to Schefter, the preference of team doctors is that Prescott receives surgery, but he will head to New York to meet with a specialist for a final opinion.<\/p>\n

“The Cowboys believe it is better to address the injury now than to let it heal on its own and encounter complications later,” Schefter reported.<\/p>\n

It’s been a difficult year for Prescott, who signed a 4-year, $240 million contract extension with the Cowboys in September. But the former Mississippi State star has struggled, throwing 11 touchdowns vs. 8 interceptions and just 1,978 yards through 8 games in 2024. Before leaving against the Falcons, he was 18-of-24 for just 133 yards.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys, meanwhile, are 3-5, and their troubles don’t rest solely on the shoulders of Prescott. But with Prescott commanding such a high payday, and with Jerry Jones’ frustrations surfacing several times during the season, the spotlight will always shine brightly on a franchise that hasn’t been able to capture a long-awaited Super Bowl triumph since the days of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
