Paul Finebaum is never one to shy away from calling out a team that he sees is underperforming, and Auburn falls into that category. The Tigers are now 3-6 overall and 1-5 in SEC play after losing 17-7 to Vanderbilt last week.<\/p>\n

This is the 4th consecutive year that the Tigers have lost at least 5 games in SEC play<\/a>, which hasn’t happened at Auburn since 1927-1930.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on the McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Finebaum gave his thoughts on where he thinks the state of the Auburn program is under Hugh Freeze.<\/p>\n

“I’m completely underwhelmed by Hugh Freeze as Auburn’s head football coach,” Finebaum said. “What does that mean? It doesn’t really mean very much in terms of this year. I think this year is essentially over, and now it’s a matter of what he can do in the offseason really immediately after the season to shore this program up.<\/p>\n

While there are still people optimistic about Freeze, Finebaum said this off-season is going to be huge for Freeze.<\/p>\n

“A lot of people are optimistic,” Finebaum said. “They talk to me and you about how well he’s done in recruiting. But ultimately I’d like to see it on the field. I’m not about to take anything away from what Vanderbilt has done this year, but that’s really hard-nosed coaching and really some tactical decisions in the offseason and I’m really trying to figure out what Hugh Freeze has done other than blame everything on Bryan Harsin.”<\/p>\n

Auburn still has 2 tough games remaining with Texas A&M and Alabama on the schedule, and the Tigers could be heading into a make-or-break season next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
