NHL is sometimes limited to 2-person drafts, which you&#8217;ll be able to learn about more below.<\/p>\n<p>The Battle Royale format has some unique qualities that make it more exciting than a standard fantasy contest with your friends. When you enter the Battle Royale contest, you will participate in a snake draft against a group of other users, almost always with 6 players but including lobbies with up to around 12 players. Keep in mind, you won\u2019t just be competing against the group you are drafting against when you first enter the studio. You\u2019re competing against every user in every group for that given period of time. So, for example, in an NBA Battle Royale lobby of 9,000 entries, around 1,500 players will have LeBron James or Nikola Jokic on their squad. The later rounds are where your true knowledge of the game can be put to the test!<\/p>\n<p>My first Battle Royale draft was an NBA Tuesday night slate. I entered a snake draft in the \u201cShootaround Tuesday\u201d contest. It cost $5 to enter. I ended up winning $10 (thanks, Ja Morant)! And remember, that was my first time entering a draft.<\/p>\n<p>Though I only drafted against 5 other users, I was competing in a contest that featured just under 10,000 other players. As games tipped off, I was able to follow along live as the players I drafted played games across the country. Recently, I even followed along as Russell Westbrook, a player I had drafted, deferred to LeBron James as he broke the all-time NBA scoring record. It may have been James&#8217;s night, but it was Westbrook who made me some money!<\/p>\n<p>While I won $10, the overall winner of the contest took home $6,000 on a $5 entry fee. The most I\u2019ve ever won in a daily draft is $20, but I&#8217;m perfectly content making $5-10 every night rather than playing big. More on those ways to play a little later.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Tips for your first Battle Royale draft:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you understand the point scoring. For example, each point scored is worth only 1 point. Each rebound is 1.2 points. Each assist is 1.5 points. But steals and blocks are worth 3 points each. Remember my spiel on Russell Westbrook earlier? Those types of picks can sometimes be the better play compared to a pure scorer!<\/li>\n<li>The draft goes quick, with most draft clocks hovering around 30 seconds to make a selection. Most fantasy football draft settings give you time to strategize, but with 6 players and a 30-second clock, things can get hectic! Get a feel for who you want and finalize your strategy before the draft begins.<\/li>\n<li>Go with a very small entry fee for your first draft, so you don\u2019t risk much money on your first go-around. Think around $3-5 and use it as a learning experience. I made a profit my first time, but that&#8217;s not always a guarantee!<\/li>\n<li>Pay close attention to injuries! Because you&#8217;re only picking for a night&#8217;s action, picking a player that is injured essentially guarantees a loss. I prefer to stay away from any player that has even an inkling of a chance to miss that night&#8217;s game.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Regular Daily Fantasy Drafts<\/h3>\n<p>Underdog Fantasy also offers a number of more standard daily fantasy drafts where you compete against just a handful of people. This allows you to favor pool size over potential earnings vs. an entire crowd of players. Head-to-head NBA drafts are a good place to start. While you can win $6,000 on a $5 entry in Battle Royale, a head-to-head draft gives you the chance to double your entry money. So, if it\u2019s a $25 entry, you can win something like $45 if you can beat out one other person or a few more for more added interest. Lose and you get nothing.<\/p>\n<p>To get to know the Underdog regular fantasy draft, I participated in some head-to-head NBA contests. In these contests, I went back and forth with my opponent in drafting 6 NBA players for the night\u2019s action. Each of us picked 6 NBA players. Like Battle Royale, it takes only a couple minutes.<\/p>\n<p>As I played a few of these contests, the only thing that gets a little repetitive is the fact that you\u2019re kind of selecting the same players over and over. Think about it\u2026 with only 2 teams with 6 players each, that\u2019s 12 players. So, essentially every contest involves teams that have a mix of mostly the same players: Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Steph Curry, etc. You can get riskier in larger pools, but drafting Walker Kessler over Giannis isn&#8217;t really going to win you any big games in head-to-head. One night Doncic will drop 50 while the other he may be held to 20. Usually, that or something similar will determine the winner. Because you aren&#8217;t going to pick any players over Doncic, Giannis, etc., you aren&#8217;t going to be able to show any deep level knowledge of the game, which is a large part of the fun and satisfaction. Football, more of a team game, is slightly different in this aspect, as certain players and matchups (as well as a larger group to choose from) can give you some wiggle room. One bonus for NBA, MLB and NHL drafts? There\u2019s action almost every night during the season, so you don\u2019t have to wait until the weekend!<\/p>\n<p>With that said, it\u2019s still super fun to have some stakes involved in the nightly action. You can likely take your gameplay to the next level by layering in some knowledge and data around the weakest defensive teams, which teams might get cooked regularly by a dynamic scoring guard, etc. And consider the teams that rebound really poorly or play lesser defense. This might help you beef up your rebounding stats and give your star player more of a chance to have a historic night.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, these contests are incredibly simple, super easy to get started with, and definitely a great way to dip your toes in the water of daily fantasy sports.<\/p>\n<div class=\"tips\">\n<p><strong><u>Important Note:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As I was getting used to the Underdog platform, I entered a daily fantasy NBA draft. I sat there for a minute and nobody entered the contest. So I left, and joined another. Nobody entered for a minute, and so I left again, and shut the app off. A few minutes later, I got a notification from Underdog that my draft was about to start!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that, once you enter, you\u2019re in, even if you leave. So I completed the first draft. Then I got another notification saying my second draft was about to start! If you remember, I entered two drafts and left both. Without realizing it, I had committed to two NBA drafts for the same day. Be aware that if you enter the contest, you\u2019re in, even if you exit the app. Also be aware that drafting multiple teams at once is something you can do once you get your feet wet in the Underdog Fantasy world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Underdog Pick\u2019em Contests<\/h3>\n<p>This is a fan favorite when it comes to Underdog Fantasy Texas. You can put some money on over\/under bets each night, especially when Luke Doncic, Jacob DeGrom, CeeDee Lamb, Jason Robertson or any number of other pro sports stars who play in Texas (or literally anywhere else) play. At Underdog, you have to pick at least 1 player from each team, but otherwise it is very similar to prop bets on other sports bet sites.<\/p>\n<p>Two types of pick\u2019em contests exist on Underdog Fantasy. Higher\/lower pick\u2019ems (which resemble over\/under player prop bets in sports betting) and Rivals. Regardless of the type, you have to combine at least 2 picks and as many as 5. They\u2019re similar to player prop bets you can find elsewhere in the sports betting space, with just a few differences. First, to make a pick&#8217;em contest legitimate, you have to have at least 2 higher\/lower picks. And those picks can\u2019t be from the same team.<\/p>\n<p>You can pick teammates, as the example above did with Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith, but you would also have to pick Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce to make things legitimate on Underdog Fantasy Texas.<\/p>\n<p>NFL and NBA games are scored live, as are many other sports, so you\u2019re able to follow along with your picks on the app. College basketball and college football aren\u2019t scored live yet, but as the service evolves you can expect it at some point in the future!<\/p>\n<p><u>Rivals<\/u><\/p>\n<p>In Rivals picks, you make a pick between two players around a specific stat category with a \u201cspread\u201d applied to one of them to even out the odds a bit. In the screenshot below, you can see you are picking between former Sacramento Kings star Tyrese Haliburton and the man he was traded for, current Kings star Domantas Sabonis. If you bet points+rebounds+assists totals and you chose Sabonis, you\u2019re betting that the Kings\u2019 big man will have at least 9 more points+rebounds+assists than Haliburton.<\/p>\n<p><u>Multipliers<\/u><\/p>\n<p>How much can you win? You can use Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards to add money to your Underdog account, which it will prompt you to do before even getting started. Another option is using PayPal. Withdrawable is exactly what it sounds like, money that you have won that can be taken out of your account. Bonus is money that is in your account that you have deposited and can go towards any of the Daily Fantasy contests on the site! You have to take out at least $10, unless of course the amount of money in the withdrawable section is lower than $10.<\/p>\n<p>So far, my go-to has been PayPal after my picks hit. Withdrawals are initiated almost instantly and I\u2019ve always received the money in my PayPal account within 24 to 36 hours.
