2024 SEC Championship Odds<\/h2>\n

The 2024 college football season has started well.<\/p>\n

Conference realignment took effect on a large scale this year, making for some new and interesting conference matchups. On top of that, the College Football Playoff has expanded to 12, conferences have shed divisions and competition, as expected, is at an all-time high. There’s no true titan to vanquish on the way to a national title this year – instead, there are 6 or so teams that seem to be true contenders for the crown.<\/p>\n

In no conference does that ring true more than the SEC. There are around 8 teams in the race to reach the CFP, while Oregon, Georgia and Texas are considered national title contenders in the latest betting odds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2023 SEC Champion: Alabama Crimson Tide<\/h2>\n

The 2023 SEC Championship Game took place on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2022 at 4 p.m. Eastern time. Alabama snatched back the crown from top-seeded Georgia 27-24 in Nick Saban’s last season.<\/p>\n

The Tide went on to give Michigan a run for their money in the Rose Bowl, but fell 27-20 to the eventual national champions. The Tide reaching the CFP didn’t come without controversy, though. Alabama jumped all the way from No. 8 to No. 4 after downing Georgia, who fell to No. 6 behind Florida State, an undefeated conference champion.<\/p>\n

But as always, these things are not black and white. Alabama proved their efficiency against Michigan and was no doubt the better team when compared to Florida State at the time. The Seminoles had just lost starting QB Jordan Travis for the remainder of the season and fell to Georgia in the Orange Bowl, 63-3 \u2013 though they played with mostly backups.<\/p>\n

The SEC Championship Game<\/h2>\n

The SEC was the first conference in college football to hold a conference championship game. The first SEC Championship Game was in 1992 where the Alabama Crimson Tide knocked off the Florida Gators by a score of 28-21. The first two games took place at Legion Field. Between 1994 and 2016, the SEC Championship Game took place annually at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga. Since the 2017 game, the game has taken place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.<\/p>\n

The SEC Championship Game is typically one of the most watched college football games each year. In 2021, the SEC Championship drew 15.3 million viewers<\/a> for CBS. That was the second most-watched college football game of the season, only behind the Michigan-Ohio State game which drew 15.89 million viewers.<\/p>\n

While other conferences have joined the party and have conference championship games, the other games have frequently failed to match the SEC Championship Game in terms of brand power, interest, attendance and television ratings. Simply put, the SEC Championship Game is consistently one of the most watched and most important games in the nation each season.<\/p>\n

SEC Championship Odds: How to read them<\/h2>\n
